A THOUSAND CRANES

ORIGAMI & POETRY IN MOSAIC

“A Thousand Cranes” is an immersive art show that I will complete and exhibit in 2026, with a smaller preview exhibit of the mosaic panels in 2024. The overall concept is translating other art forms into mosaic, in this case, origami and poetry. The symbolization is a call for peace amongst the struggles of the world. I anticipate that the exhibit will take roughly 8000-9000 hours of work to complete. Currently I’m in the first stage of fundraising to pay for initial supplies, my work time, and a grant writer. To do this, I’m offering a selection of special origami crane themed merchandise that you can order from the link below, and of course taking donations. I appreciate any help bringing this exhibit to reality!

CRANE EXHIBITION INFORMATION

A Thousand Cranes: Origami & Poetry in Mosaic" is an immersive art exhibition that explores the translation of origami and poetry into mosaic art. The exhibition features thousands of hand-folded origami cranes, which are a time-honored symbol of long life and peace in Japan. The cranes are arranged in a pathway that gradually increases in size and grandeur, culminating in a stunning 5-foot mosaic crane centerpiece.

Along the walls of the pathway, visitors will encounter mosaic artworks that translate a poem about cranes and peace into a visual code. The mosaics are created using a combination of stained glass, glass beads, and gold mirror accents, and are coded with circles and stripes to represent letters and words.

As visitors make their way through the exhibition, they will be struck by the intricate craftsmanship and attention to detail in each piece. The combination of the cascading origami cranes, the coded mosaic poem, and the vibrant colors and textures of the glass mosaic will create a thoughtful and immersive experience.
