Violet Aspirations is a study of the the inner formations of an amethyst crystal. The sharp and jagged picassiette background contrasts the round and flowing elements of the foreground.

Creation of the Violet Aspirations Mosaic

Violet Aspirations was created in 2004. After I made Blue Aspirations, I realized how much I liked the smooth, molded tiles on the 3-D spirals. I love amethyst, so I immediately wanted to make one in purple. This one is less monochromatic than the blue one, mostly because I had a more limited selection of purple glass. It worked really well to have the crystalline circles in lighter tones, using grout lines as an element of design, along with the circular shapes within the circles.
